Shanghai

FEAST

I walked into the Super Brand Mall in Downtown Pudong and came across this very good joint that serves xiao long bao along with a full menu.  I think these were as good as the soup dumplings at the Din Tai Fung in Taipei.  The broth was really flavorful and not overseasoned.  The wraps were also very delicate.  This place only served four dumplings per order, as opposed to six Din Tai Fung, but I think they were priced accordingly.

The Steamed Shanghai dumplings were filled with pork, while the Poached dumplings had chicken in them.

I had dinner at the mall near my hotel, again.  It sure was convenient have several good options only two blocks away.  I ordered a starter of fried pork with black pepper and a main of chicken and egg donburi served with miso soup.  The fried pork was a bit chewy, probably overcooked.  The chicken and egg dish was OK; it was just a little heavy on the onions and the chicken was a little bland.

This soup and ribs dish was very good, though I ate them separately.  The ribs were deep fried in a light batter.  The noodles probably weren't made in house, but they still went very nicely with the clear soup with scallions.
