Kyoto

FEAST

Chashu ramen:

Whole Sauteed Prawns

For my last meal in Kyoto, I was able to locate this "Ramen Street" on the 10th FL of the Saten department store.  I ordered the usual chashu (pork belly) ramen.  Odd yet a good thing, I guess, each table in this joint had a bowl of hard-boiled eggs for you to munch on or add to your soup.  That was a nice touch.  Oh, and I actually passed on gyoza or fried chicken!  But maybe that was because I didn't see it on the menu, I can't remember.

Anyhow, the broth was really dynamite, light and not overly seasoned.  And this place gave you a ton of pork to go along with the tasty black fungus and nori.

Tokyo

I checked in at my hotel in Tokyo and relaxed for a bit before heading to Suntory Hall to catch the symphony.  I knew I didn't have time for a full, sit-down dinner, so I decided to grab...ramen.  This spot was down in the Shimbashi Station, and it's really amazing the food options you can find in the Tokyo subway if the station is one with multiple lines running through it.

And this place feeding the rush hour crowd did a very nice chashu ramen, the broth clear, the dried piece of nori adding nice brine to the meal.
